What you’ll make

In this class, each student will build a solid hinoki bath stool using traditional Japanese hand tools.

Hinoki cypress is prized in Japan for its amazing working properties, fine grain, and lovely natural aroma. It has been used for centuries in temples, bathhouses, and traditional architecture.

This class has been designed as a way to experience Japanese style craft, without having to fully commit. Under careful instruction this stool can be made by anyone, regardless of skill or experience.

By the end of the class, you'll leave with:

• A finished solid wood stool, made by your own hands
• New hand tool skills
• A deeper understanding of traditional woodworking
